Common Core Implementation and LCFF - CISI Spring 2014 Workshops - Fresno COE

California Institute for School Improvement (CISI) Fall 2014 Workshop Details

California public schools will undergo the most significant and historic changes seen in decades with the implementation of both the Common Core State Standards and an entirely new school funding system. While these major issues will dominate our discussion at this year's fall CISI workshops, there are a number of interconnected parts and politics that every school leader should know. In addition to a close examination of LCFF and the direction the State is likely to take on the Local Control Accountability Plan, we will dig deeply into the challenges and opportunities of implementing the common core standards, moving to a new assessment system and ultimately a new system of school accountability.

The CISI workshops are designed to pull these various issues together in a review of the “Top Ten issues in Education,” that will help local educators anticipate state and federal policies and plan more effectively for the year ahead.

The Center for Applied Policy in Education has partnered with Capitol Advisors Group's excellent staff to present the CISI Fall Briefing Workshops. Presenters will include Jack O'Connell, former CA Superintendent of Public Instruction, Kevin Gordon, Gerry Shelton and Barrett Snider, all partners in Capitol Advisors Group.

The workshops are designed to pull these various issues together in a review of the “Top Ten issues in Eeducation,” that will help local educators anticipate state and federal policies and plan more effectively for the year ahead. The Top Ten issues for 2013-14 include:

1)   Common Core implementation
2)   State Budget
3)   Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF)
4)   Local Control Accountability Plans (LCAPs)
5)   EL/Low income/foster students
6)   Assessments
7)   Federal and state accountability
8)   Instructional materials
9)   Bargaining implications
10) Teacher evaluation

CISI supports school district, county offices of education and instructional leaders across the state with a focus on instructional improvement. CISI helps local leaders stay focused on the critical issues and provides the information they need, providing integrated analysis across funding, instruction and political perspectives. District superintendents, school principals, business officials and human resources leaders appreciate our timely and accurate policy updates.

CISI provides an impartial and knowledgeable perspective on policy developments in Sacramento as they apply to the real work of school districts and county offices of education.
